Wearable and Implantable Sensors and Body Sensor Networks Advisory Board Invited Lectures Economic and social changes are playing a fundamental role on the development of healthcare systems so like they led to the transition from desktop computing and communication tools to portable devices. Thanks to these rapid advances in physiological sensors, microsystems, low power integrated circuits and wireless communication capability, portable devices for healthcare monitoring have become practically feasible. A wide range of research fields are interested in wearable wireless and implantable body sensor technologies from the civilian to military area. In particular, in the healthcare domain wearable/wireless body sensor network systems (BSNs) can lead to develop services such as medical monitoring, control of medical data management and emergency communication. A continuous monitoring and possible control of the health status will lead to early detection of emergency situations especially for people suffering from chronic diseases. However, in order to develop systems which provide high-quality care services further progress is needed in terms of unobtrusiveness, multi-sensory data integration, scalability, energy efficiency and security.
